Ryoma Ohi, Ph.D.

Dr. Ohi graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1993 with a B.S. in Molecular Biology. He received his Ph.D. in 1998 in Cell Biology from Vanderbilt University after completion of this thesis work in the laboratory of Dr. Kathleen Gould. Dr. Ohi received post-doctoral training with Dr. Timothy J. Mitchison at Harvard Medical School and joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2007. He is a member of the Genome Maintenance Program in the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
Dr. Ohi’s research focuses on the mechanisms that underlie mitotic spindle assembly and function. His laboratory has made significant discoveries into how kinesin-like proteins regulate spindle assembly and dynamics. His research has been published in journals including Developmental Cell, Current Biology, and Molecular Biology of the Cell. Dr. Ohi has received several awards recognizing his scientific achievements. He was a Special Fellow of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and was a recipient of two internal Research Scholar Grants supported by the American Cancer Society. Dr. Ohi is currently funded by an R01 from the NIH, and is a Scholar of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
