“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” -Harriet Tubman
As a graduate student researching cancer imaging techniques and applications, I’ve learned a lot about the different facets of this disease and how it doesn’t discriminate based on race, gender or age. I’ve been exposed to cancer and its effects since an early age. All of my grandparents had been diagnosed with either breast, lung, colon or skin cancer. However, it wasn’t until recently after I lost a good friend very shortly after his diagnosis when I started thinking about what I could do to make the most impact for cancer research.
After hearing that a tenured professor left her research career at Vanderbilt to work for a cancer foundation and raise awareness for the disease, I realized that I could follow in her footsteps and promote the importance of cancer research and help support it through fundraising and volunteering.
As soon as I heard about the Young Ambassadors group at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, I knew I wanted to get involved. The members of this group are vivacious and passionate about supporting cancer research at Vanderbilt. All donations go directly toward funding Discovery grants. This money provides seed funding to help support bold, innovative research ideas that without these grants might not become funded.
I’m passionate and dedicated to do all I can to support and further cancer research at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Please join our VICCtory over Cancer Campaign! With your help, we CAN make a difference and will one day find a CURE!
